The sandstone walls of the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel rise three stories high, topped by a roofline of distinct gables that have stood on this corner since eighteen forty-one. It functions as Australia’s oldest continuously licensed hotel. Before the beer was brewed on-site, the building served as the home of William Lees, a former convict who arrived in the colony in eighteen twenty-eight. He turned his residence into a pub, catering to sailors from the nearby docks with a steady supply of ale.
