The Dairy Produce Hall at the Queen Victoria Market features an arched ceiling painted in deep blues and yellows, framing rows of stalls that have sold butter, cheese, and cured meats for over a century. Opened in nineteen twenty-eight, this hall replaced the older, muddy market lanes where vendors previously struggled to keep perishable goods cool. Architects Kraft and Johnson designed the structure with high windows for airflow, prioritizing sanitation to move Melbourne's trade into the modern era of food safety.
