Museum of Chinese Australian History

The Museum of Chinese Australian History occupies a former warehouse in Melbourne’s Chinatown, marked by a vivid mural of a golden dragon stretching across its red brick facade. It began as a volunteer-led effort in nineteen eighty-five to gather artifacts from early gold rush immigrants. When the museum first opened, it served as a repository for the community to reclaim stories of arrival, struggle, and integration. One of its centerpieces is a two-hundred-foot-long ceremonial dragon, Dai Loong, built in nineteen ninety-one.
