The National Gallery of Victoria features a massive water wall that flows down a glass pane at the entrance. This building on St Kilda Road serves as the oldest and most visited public art museum in Australia. When the gallery opened in nineteen sixty-eight, the architect Roy Grounds designed the entrance to bridge the gap between the busy street and the quiet galleries inside. He wanted the sound of falling water to drown out the city traffic, creating a calm threshold for arriving visitors.
