Pfarrkirche und Basilika Mariae Empfängnis

The twin towers of the Wiltener Basilika rise above the street in distinct, rounded onion domes that crown the valley floor. This structure serves as a pilgrimage site, built upon ground that supposedly held a Roman fort protecting the old trade route over the Brenner Pass. In the thirteen hundreds, a shepherd discovered a miraculous statuette of the Virgin Mary here. That discovery pulled crowds to the site for centuries, eventually leading to the construction of this ornate, high-baroque church during the seventeen fifties.
