The BTV Stadtforum features a glass facade that reflects the jagged Nordkette mountain range above Innsbruck. This bank headquarters and cultural center occupies the site of the former Imperial Palace guardhouse. Architect Heinz Tesar designed the complex in the nineties, embedding a series of public plazas and exhibition spaces into the dense urban fabric. During the excavation, crews unearthed Roman ruins, which now sit preserved beneath the banking hall floor. A glass panel in the lobby allows visitors to peer directly at those foundations.
