Burgriesenhaus

The Burgriesenhaus features a painted relief of a giant towering over two smaller figures on its facade. This house served as the residence of the Tyrolean court giant, a man named Nikolaus Haidl who stood nearly seven feet tall in the seventeenth century. Archduke Ferdinand the Second employed Haidl as a curiosity and guard, keeping him close to the royal court. The giant eventually left his service to operate a local tavern, where locals gathered to drink beneath his portrait.
