The Triumphal Arch in Innsbruck is marked by its two distinct faces, carved from grey stone and limestone. Empress Maria Theresa commissioned the structure in seventeen sixty-five for two occasions: the wedding of her son, Archduke Leopold, to Maria Luisa of Spain, and the sudden funeral of her husband, Emperor Francis Stephen, who died days after the ceremony. The north side depicts the joyous wedding festivities, while the south side bears somber carvings reflecting the mourning of the imperial family.
