Wiltener Platzl

The Wiltener Platzl is a small, triangular intersection marked by a bronze statue of a Roman soldier standing atop a high stone pedestal. This spot serves as the historic gate to Wilten, where the Roman military road once climbed toward the Brenner Pass. In the late nineteenth century, city planners formalized the square to manage the flow of traffic between the growing city of Innsbruck and the older, independent village. A stone relief on the pedestal depicts the ancient legionary fortress of Veldidena.
