Colourful Houses Innsbruck

The long row of tall, narrow houses bordering the Inn River features pastel facades in shades of lime, salmon, and lilac. These buildings are survivors of centuries of flooding, their foundations anchored deep into the riverbank. In the seventeen hundreds, local merchants built them to serve as both warehouse and residence, allowing goods arriving by water to be moved directly into storage. One of these structures once hosted the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who watched the river rush past from his upper window.
