Hofburg Innsbruck

The Hofburg in Innsbruck features a long, pale yellow facade with a prominent central balcony that stretches across the Rennweg. This was the seat of the Tyrolean sovereigns for centuries, beginning as a medieval fortress before Empress Maria Theresa ordered a complete transformation into a Rococo palace during the seventeen seventies. She wanted a residence fitting for her imperial family, and she insisted on frequent visits to oversee the construction. The empress even kept a strict tally of the costs during her stays.
