Claudiaplatz is a triangular square defined by the prominent bronze statue of Archduchess Claudia de' Medici standing at its center. In the seventeenth century, she effectively governed Tyrol, overseeing the construction of the nearby provincial government building. When she died, the local estates commissioned this monument to recognize her administrative efforts during a period of intense conflict. Most days, the square serves as a quiet transition between the older city streets and the newer residential blocks that rose here in the early twentieth century.
