Marktplatz Innsbruck

landmark

The Marktplatz in Innsbruck is defined by the three large, shimmering glass cubes that sit above the underground parking garage. This space functions as the city's central market hub, hosting stalls that sell local produce, flowers, and snacks throughout the week. Before these modern structures arrived in two thousand two, the area served as a simple, open parking lot. Architect Dominique Perrault designed the cubes to reflect the surrounding peaks, though local residents argued for years over their polarizing appearance.
