Emile-Béthouart-Steg

The Emile-Béthouart-Steg is a slender steel footbridge spanning the Inn River with a distinctive, slightly arched profile that keeps it just inches above the water during high tide. Named for the French general who commanded the occupation forces in the Tyrol after the Second World War, the bridge connects the historic district to the northern bank. In nineteen forty-six, Béthouart famously authorized the bridge’s construction to allow local residents to cross the river quickly, bypass the damaged primary routes, and reach their jobs.
