The Golden Roof stands out for the two thousand six hundred fifty-seven gilded copper tiles covering its balcony. Built for Emperor Maximilian the First in the fifteen hundreds, the roof allowed him to watch festivals and tournaments in the square below while remaining comfortably apart from the crowds. During one tournament, his wife, Bianca Maria Sforza, reportedly tossed gold coins from this very balcony to the onlookers, a gesture that cemented the emperor's reputation as a generous ruler, at least for that afternoon.
