City Tower

landmark

The City Tower rises fifty-one meters above the heart of Innsbruck, capped by a distinctive onion-shaped dome that marks the skyline. Completed in fourteen fifty, this tower served as a prison and a fire watch post, with a guard living in a small room near the top. In fifteen sixty, a tailor named Johannes Waider climbed the stairs to the lookout and famously shouted down to the citizens below that they were under attack by Turkish forces, causing widespread panic before realizing he was wrong.
