Cundell John Stables

The Cundell John Stables building sits at the corner of Clarence and Parent streets with a distinctive, weathered limestone facade that reveals its nineteenth-century origins. John Cundell built these stables in eighteen fifty-five to serve the growing horse-drawn commerce of the ByWard Market. For years, this was where teamsters offloaded goods and boarded their horses while working the nearby market stalls. The heavy stone walls remain from a time when the neighborhood echoed with iron rims clattering over muddy, unpaved streets.
