Two towering silver spires rise above the neighborhood, distinct against the skyline of downtown Ottawa. Inside the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, carved wooden statues of the apostles line the walls, and deep blue vaulting creates a ceiling that looks like a starry night sky. Joseph Guillaume was the craftsman who carved the intricate statues in the mid-nineteenth century. He worked on them for years, filling the space with figures that remain the primary focal point for anyone walking through the central aisle.
