Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel

The Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel is a stone building with thick, barred windows and a limestone facade that stands out for its grim, defensive profile. This structure served as the Carleton County Gaol from eighteen sixty-two until nineteen seventy-two. It housed prisoners in cramped, unheated cells, and its gallows saw the last public hanging in Canada. Today, guests sleep in those former cells, though the heavy iron doors and the original, unsettling layout of the cell block remain entirely intact.
