Senate of Canada Building

The Senate of Canada Building features a Beaux-Arts stone facade topped with a prominent glass atrium. Formerly Ottawa’s main railway station, the building served travelers arriving by train from nineteen twelve until the mid-sixties. When the Centre Block on Parliament Hill closed for extensive renovations in two thousand eighteen, the Senate moved into this repurposed terminal. Senators now debate legislation in what was once the station’s cavernous general waiting room, where passengers once sat on wooden benches waiting for their trains.
