Clarendon Lane Courtyard

Clarendon Lane Courtyard features an archway of rough-hewn stone that frames a passage between York and George Streets. This space sits on land that once hosted a simple livery stable in the mid-nineteenth century. Later, it became a quiet thoroughfare for local merchants who hauled goods to the busy ByWard Market stalls. Today, the narrow corridor preserves the original limestone walls, while the open center offers a break from the market traffic. Horses once waited in these shadows for their owners.
