The National War Memorial

The National War Memorial consists of a tall granite archway crowned by bronze figures representing Peace and Liberty. Thousands of Canadians gather here every November eleventh for Remembrance Day ceremonies. The memorial was unveiled in nineteen thirty-nine, just months before the Second World War began. Its designer, Vernon March, included twenty-three bronze figures representing the various service branches of the First World War. He died before seeing his creation finalized, leaving his siblings to complete the work in his memory.
