Placita de Flórez

The iron gates at the entrance to Placita de Flórez bear the city crest, marking the oldest public market building still standing in Medellin. Constructed in nineteen thirteen, the structure features high ceilings and wide aisles designed to accommodate mule trains that once carried produce directly from the surrounding mountains. When the building opened, merchants complained that the ventilation was poor and the location too far from the city center, but it eventually became the primary supply hub for the entire valley.
