Plaza Botero - Medellín, Antioquia

landmark

Twenty-three massive bronze sculptures sit scattered across this open square. Fernando Botero donated these figures to his hometown in two thousand. Each piece displays the artist's signature style of exaggerated, rounded volumes. Before the donation, Botero insisted that the city provide a dedicated space where the public could encounter his work without walls or entry fees. He wanted the people of Medellín to live among his art during their daily routines, watching children climb on the smooth, heavy bronze legs of the statues.
