Salón Málaga

The Salón Málaga is marked by the worn, velvet-lined booths and the crackle of vintage tangos playing from an expansive collection of vinyl records. Opened in nineteen fifty-seven by Gustavo Arteaga, the space served as a sanctuary for musicians and poets when Medellín was a much smaller city. It remains a rare holdout of mid-twentieth-century atmosphere, keeping the sounds of Gardel and the habits of a bygone era alive amidst a rapidly modernizing neighborhood. The original records still spin every afternoon.
