Teatro Metropolitano de Medellín - José Gutierrez Gómez

The Teatro Metropolitano de Medellín features a massive, sharply angled concrete facade that looms over the street like an upturned ship. Designed by the architect Aurelio Botero, the structure opened in nineteen eighty-seven to provide the city with a dedicated home for opera and symphony orchestras. Before its construction, musicians often performed in cramped, makeshift venues that struggled with acoustics. The building changed this by offering a purpose-built stage where the Medellín Philharmonic could finally play without competing against outside traffic noise.
