Parques del Río

A wide, concrete slab stretches over the Medellín River, burying the sound of the regional highway beneath an expanse of public gardens. This park replaced a chaotic traffic corridor that severed the city for decades. When planners pushed the traffic underground, they reclaimed the riverbanks for pedestrians. In nineteen ninety-four, a young architect named Aníbal Gaviria proposed covering this river section to reconnect neighborhoods, but construction did not begin until twenty fifteen. The river now runs through the center of a concrete urban oasis.
