Parque Berrío holds the bronze statue of a rotund, seated woman by the artist Fernando Botero. The park marks the historic heart of Medellín, serving as the city’s primary social anchor since it was established as a plaza in the mid-seventeenth century. It shifted from a colonial market square to a modern transit hub, losing its original cathedral to fire and redevelopment. Local traders and commuters still gather here today under the shade of the trees that separate the metro line from the sidewalk.
