The Palais du Duc de Vallombrosa features a distinctive row of tall, arched windows and elaborate stone balconies overlooking the Le Riou district. Built in the eighteen sixties, this villa served as the winter residence for the Duke of Vallombrosa, a wealthy Italian aristocrat drawn to the French Riviera by the mild climate. The Duke hosted lavish parties here, often filling his ballroom with exotic plants. During one celebrated season, he imported palm trees specifically to impress the visiting European nobility.
