Quai Saint-Pierre

The Quai Saint-Pierre features a long, weathered stone wall that separates the quiet, narrow cobblestone streets of Le Suquet from the forest of masts in the harbor. Centuries ago, this quay served as the only real defensive point for the small fishing village of Cannes. In sixteen thirty-five, Spanish forces landed right here, seizing the nearby Lérins Islands. The local fishermen had to abandon their nets and pick up pikes to hold the line until reinforcements arrived from the mainland.
