On the morning of August 9, 2017, the quiet routine of the Place de Verdun in Levallois-Perret was shattered by a targeted attack. A group of soldiers from the 35th Infantry Regiment was preparing to depart from a local facility for their daily shift as part of Operation Sentinelle, a mission designed to secure sensitive sites across France. A driver positioned a vehicle in a nearby alley and accelerated directly into the soldiers as they emerged, injuring six of them before fleeing the scene. The incident turned this residential area into the center of a national security operation, leading to a massive manhunt that ended hours later on a highway in northern France. The site remains a reminder of the risks faced by military personnel assigned to protect urban spaces during a period of heightened threat.
