Parc de L'Ile de la Jatte

The Parc de la Jatte stretches along the narrow strip of an island in the Seine, identified by the quiet walking paths that dip directly to the riverbank. This island became famous in the nineteenth century when painters like Georges Seurat and Claude Monet set up their easels here to capture the shifting light on the water. Before the leisure seekers arrived, the land held industrial laundry facilities and nurseries, which slowly vanished to make room for the weekend boaters and Impressionist studios.
