Square Villebois Mareuil

park garden

Square Villebois-Mareuil sits on land that once hosted a bustling food market. In the late nineteenth century, the neighborhood of Bécon-les-Bruyères grew rapidly following the arrival of the railway, necessitating a local place for residents to buy goods. A covered market known as the Marche Lambrechts opened here in July 1900 to serve this expanding community. Decades later, as commercial habits shifted and the market relocated elsewhere, the site was transformed into this public square. The area maintains its connection to that history, as it remains adjacent to a local market that still bears the Villebois-Mareuil name today.
