Square Villebois Mareuil is a pocket park centered around a bronze bust of a man in a military uniform, Lieutenant Colonel Georges de Villebois-Mareuil. He was a French aristocrat who died in the Boer War fighting alongside the Boers against the British in nineteen hundred. The square serves as a quiet memorial to his decision to abandon his career in the French army to pursue his own version of military adventure in southern Africa, ending with his death in the Battle of Boshof.
