Pont de Courbevoie

The Pont de Courbevoie spans the Seine with three distinct iron arches resting on stone piers. It replaced an earlier suspension bridge that could not handle the weight of modern traffic as the suburbs grew in the early twentieth century. During the construction of this version in nineteen seventy-eight, engineers had to navigate the deep, industrial history of the riverbed while keeping the crossing open for the thousands of commuters moving between the western edge of Paris and the business district.
