The Indian Pavilion in Courbevoie stands out for its intricate, hand-carved teak wood facade, which looks strikingly out of place against the modern concrete buildings nearby. It was originally built for the nineteen hundred colonial exhibition in Paris to showcase Indian craftsmanship. After the fair, it moved several times before settling here. Gaston Goüin, a wealthy industrialist, bought the structure and used it as a private retreat. He eventually donated the building to the city, which still maintains its elaborate, carved wooden frame.
