Entrée Coulée Verte

The Coulée Verte René-Dumont begins here with a grand, red-brick archway that bridges the street. This elevated park follows the path of the old Vincennes railway line, which carried commuters from the Bastille station out to the eastern suburbs until nineteen sixty-nine. Architect Philippe Mathieux and landscape designer Jacques Vergely converted the abandoned tracks into a public walkway in the late eighties. Train passengers once peered into second-story windows; now, pedestrians walk thirty feet above the city streets among rose bushes.
