Theatre of the Oppressed

cultural

The Centre du Théâtre de l'Opprimé occupies a converted former industrial building on the rue du Charolais. Its high, bare walls still show the marks of its past life as a garage and warehouse. Inside, the space functions as a laboratory for Augusto Boal’s techniques, where audience members step onto the stage to stop the play and propose different outcomes for the characters. Instead of passive watching, the actors and the public work together to rehearse potential solutions to real social problems.
