La Villa des Arts is a tall, red-brick courtyard complex tucked away behind a modest street gate in the eighteenth arrondissement. Built in eighteen ninety, the structure provided affordable studios for painters and sculptors when Montmartre remained the city's artistic core. Paul Cézanne and Henri Rousseau worked within these walls while the building served as a sanctuary for struggling artists. The light from the glass-roofed ateliers still illuminates the same workspace where artists once painted the early works of modernism.
