Musée d'Art Juif

The Musée d'Art Juif, or the Museum of Jewish Art, is identified by the modest, unassuming entrance tucked away within the rue des Saules in the eighteenth arrondissement. Established in nineteen forty-eight, this institution was created to preserve Jewish cultural heritage in the aftermath of the Second World War. Its founders salvaged thousands of objects from abandoned apartments and looted collections. Among the displays, a tiny, tarnished silver spice box survives from a family whose name is no longer known.
