square de la Moskowa

park garden

The Square de la Moskowa occupies a triangular wedge of land where Rue de la Moskowa meets Rue Carpeaux. Its name marks the eighteen twelve Battle of Borodino, fought near the Moskva River during Napoleon’s retreat from Russia. While soldiers died in the freezing snow, this park offers a few benches under chestnut trees and a small playground. A stone plaque at the entrance quietly preserves the connection to that distant, disastrous campaign, while neighborhood children play games on the pavement just a few feet away.
