The Théâtre du Chaos occupies a former industrial laundry building in the twentieth arrondissement. Its gray concrete facade still bears the faint, rusted outlines of iron pulleys once used to hoist heavy linens through the upper windows. In nineteen ninety-two, a collective of experimental actors bought the derelict shell for a single symbolic franc, intending to create a performance space free from traditional stage constraints. They ripped out the floorboards, leaving the bare earth exposed to host their inaugural season of underground plays.
