The Théâtre Ouvert occupies the Jardin d'Hiver of the former railway station at the Avenue de la Porte de Montmartre. Its glass roof makes the building stand out, as it was designed to house tropical plants brought by colonial explorers. Lucien Attoun and his wife Micheline founded the company in nineteen seventy-one to provide a dedicated space for playwrights to hear their own work read aloud. They kept the theater focused on developing new scripts, often without the pressures of full staging.
