Errancis Cemetery

The Errancis Cemetery sits tucked behind the walls of the Courcelles neighborhood, marked by a plain stone tablet on a quiet street corner. During the French Revolution, this plot served as a mass grave for victims of the guillotine, including Maximilien Robespierre and his associates. Workers hauled the bodies here at night, dumping them into open trenches filled with quicklime to accelerate decomposition. Today, the street covers the final resting place of over one thousand people executed at the nearby Place de la Concorde.
