R-26 (salon)

The R-twenty-six salon in Montmartre hides behind a massive, windowless concrete wall on a street otherwise lined with traditional stone facades. Architect Jean Walter designed this private residence in nineteen thirty-one for his wife, the interior designer Madeleine Castaing. While the neighborhood keeps its nineteenth-century charm, this building sits as a stark cube of industrial materials. Castaing filled the interior with a blend of leopard prints, antique furniture, and neoclassical ruins that became a signature look for international collectors.
