Théâtre des Abbesses

The Théâtre des Abbesses wears a glass facade that reflects the sky and the surrounding streets, tucked against the base of the Montmartre hill. Architect Charles Vandenhove designed this building in nineteen ninety-six to serve as a modern expansion of the Théâtre de la Ville. He built the structure to fit into the cramped, sloped terrain, hiding most of the stage and seating underground. A spiral staircase behind the glass wall leads patrons down into the theater’s core beneath the street level.
