The Salle Charlie Parker sits within the northern section of the Grande Halle de la Villette. This four-thousand-square-meter venue occupies a space that once served a vastly different purpose as part of Paris's primary livestock market. Architects designed this massive iron-and-glass structure in the nineteenth century to handle thousands of cattle. The site transitioned from a slaughterhouse district to a cultural center in the late twentieth century, and the name honors the American jazz saxophonist who revolutionized modern music with the development of bebop.
