Sculptures Bachelard

You are approaching the Sculptures Bachelard, an installation created by artist Jean-Max Albert in nineteen eighty-six. These eight bronze pieces are scattered around the Jardin de la Treille within the Parc de la Villette. They are designed as frames, meant to capture and condense the surrounding environment into a geometric summary. By looking through or toward these bronze viewfinders, you see specific portions of the park transformed into abstract models of their own atmosphere. The work serves as a physical tribute to the philosopher Gaston Bachelard, who famously wrote about how human memory and dreams are anchored to the physical spaces we inhabit.
