Salle Gaveau

The Salle Gaveau features a distinctive rounded limestone facade topped by a row of arched windows. Built in nineteen oh seven by the piano manufacturing family of the same name, the hall served as a purpose-built home for chamber music, designed specifically for their own instruments. During the second world war, the basement functioned as a temporary prison for prisoners of war before they were transported to Germany. A stone plaque near the entrance remembers those who passed through those dark rooms.
