Armenian Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

The Armenian Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist occupies a former chapel built in the late nineteenth century for the sisters of the Congregation of the Holy Cross. Its most distinct feature is the traditional Armenian-style stone carving integrated into the facade, which stands in contrast to the surrounding Haussmann architecture. In the nineteen seventies, the Armenian community acquired the building, transforming it into a center for their faith and culture. A massive khachkar, or cross-stone, sits outside as a memorial to the victims of the Armenian genocide.
