Cimetière des Lilas

historic

The Cimetière des Lilas holds a distinct position on the edge of Paris, marked by a dense collection of stone monuments crowded against the hillside. This site began serving the local population in eighteen eighty-six, replacing an older burial ground near the village church. While many municipal cemeteries feel quiet and detached, this one slopes sharply upward, creating a tangle of narrow, stepped aisles. Many of the oldest plots feature weathered iron crosses and ceramic flowers that remain from the early twentieth century.
