Cimetière des Lilas

The Cimetière des Lilas occupies a high point overlooking the plain of Pantin, a landscape that served as a final battleground during the French campaign of eighteen fourteen. Established in eighteen sixty-eight, shortly after the town of Les Lilas was created by separating from its neighbors, this cemetery was designed to anchor a new community. Because of its elevation, the grounds offer a expansive view that stretches toward the Sacré-Cœur basilica and, on days with clear skies, as far as the airport at Roissy.
